“This is an excellent manual, not just for the newbie but for long-time T&F officials
as well. It does an excellent job of consolidating the information found in the three NFHS publications: rules book, case book, and officials manual. As soon as it become available, every high school track official should have one in his "kit." You guys have done a super job putting this thing together. It's something I have been thinking was needed for years. Hopefully, I can convince our local officials to purchase bulk copies for all our T&F officials.”
-- Phil Lawton, Las Vegas NV (Southern Nevada Officials Association –
retired T&F Coach)
Having coached track for 14 years, officiated it for 20 plus years and just plain enjoyed the sport since Jr. High School, I am truly impressed with your project! Everything I can think of about the sport is so very well covered in your manual. It is the perfect size to be carried by all coaches and officials. It is a vital tool for all coaches, meet organizers and officials, and they all should have it and refer to it frequently.

“This book outlines all facets of a track meet's operations from start to finish in very easy to follow instructions. Anyone who hosts track meet(s) will find this book extremely useful and it will establish a professional tone of efficiency for the meet's officiating and management. It does not supplant the States rules the but more importantly executes them with clarity.”
-- Spencer Sielschott, New Mexico Track & Cross Country Coaches
Association President and NMTCCCA Clinic Director
Birmingham High School hosts over 50 track meets in a year. Whether it is a youth meet or a meet for elite athletes or whether it is a dual, invitational or championship meet, there are always indviduals involved in the meet who could use this valuable tool. Meet directors, coaches, officials and volunteers could all benefit from it. How much better would our sport be if this publication could be put into the hands of meet management? The size of the book is perfect for my coaches bag or first aid kit. The format is well-organized, complete and easy to read. The diagrams and forms are very helpful. This is the reference book that our sport sorely needs.
--Scott King Birmingham H.S. Los Angeles
Officiating High School Track & Field is a truly outstanding thumbnail-approach resource handbook. Of use to both the novice and seasoned official alike, the book is structured in such a manner that an official can quickly look up a needed rule – as well as explanations when needed as to how rules have been applied in practice. A clearly presented Table of Contents directs the official to relevant pages in the book, where rules/explanations are given in outline form, making it easy to locate and interpret what is needed. I wish I had a handbook such as this when I began officiating high school competitions, and will definitely have it on hand, together with the appropriate Rule
Book, when doing so in the future.

Competition Official, 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and
former IAAF Technical Official.
This is a great source for anyone serving as a meet director or meet offical. It is very thorough but still concise. It should be required for anyone hosting a meet, especially invitationals involving several schools.
-- Roger Buhrley, Syracuse High, Utah

--Chuck Yale – Payson AZ
I think the book would be a tremendous help for people that do not have a background in track. Anything from entering the meets to finding out how many volunteers are needed.
-- Shawn Gatson, Athletic Director - Bourgade Catholic High School
What a great wealth of information for anyone involved in track and field. Having coached track and field for 30 years and now doing some officiating, I would highly recommend this book to coaches as well as officials. It's a nice size to just throw in your bag, and it's very inexpensive. Great job.
--Ron Johnson, Flint, MI
"I think you did a great job and it is very much needed guide for schools-- I am not presently running meets or coaching track, so I am not sure if there are other publications that are similar to this one out there. But I think it is very good and will be very helpful to schools."
-- Bill Gahn, Deer Valley School District Athlete Director , Glendale AZ
Very nicely done! Congratulations! Having coached high school track for 20+ years and being an official, I found this manual to be very well organized and full of useful information. I think that this will be an excellent resource for both the experienced as well as the first time official. I highly recommend it to all junior high and high school track and field coaches.
--Tom Pifer - Dome Director - Round Valley Unified Schools, AZ
The Handbook was very comprehensive and easy to use. The topics covered were fundamental concepts, which are essential to good officiating. I particularly liked the charts delineating the breakdown of time requirement for trials in the high jump and pole vault. Section on Umpiring was very comprehensive. All in all, the handbook was very useful and informative.
-- John Nowicki, Southern Nevada Officials Association
Having coached for 15 years of which three were at the high school level, I found the Officiating Handbook comprehensive and easy to use. The Handbook offers fundamental concepts that are essential for good officiating. The "tips" and "situations" boxes throughout the Handbook are valuable tools for begining or experienced officials.
